Thank you for your interest in my editing services. Read on to discover how I can help you improve your manuscripts, writing projects, and web content! I currently offer Writing Improvement Packages for business owners, bloggers, and writers AND Manuscript Editing packages for folks who have a book or ebook that they want to have someone edit.
It is difficult to self-publish. Between writing, marketing, and editing you’re wearing many hats, but you don’t need to do it alone! With all of the listed options below, you will receive a revised copy of your submitted document with my comments/annotations included as suggestions. You may not agree with all of them, and that is okay. Ultimately, you are in control of your manuscript, even when you are sending it off to an editor. Maintaining control is one of the things that makes independent and self-publishing so fantastic, so I wouldn’t expect you to sacrifice that.
Note: I also offer eBook and Print Book formatting, which are quoted on a flat ‘per project’ basis, so let me know if that is something you’d like to have included in your quote.
Line Editing or Copy Editing: This service is for when you’d like someone to give your manuscript a more thorough review. As a professional recommendation, I would suggest pursuing line editing after you have had the opportunity to review the manuscript yourself and make any changes you might be considering. Why? If you are planning to change something, and I point out that it should be changed when I make my comments – you aren’t getting the full benefit of my service. You aren’t having me edit what you actually would like to publish, which is a disservice to us both. Line editing also includes looking over the manuscript for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and other simplistic errors.
This type of editing typically costs $0.01 per word. Any difference in rate depends on the length of the project, subject and genre of the work, and how quickly the work needs to be completed. Typically manuscripts between 20-60k words take 7-10 business days to complete.
Developmental Editing: This level of editing is the most intense type of editing I offer. In this package I will not only line/copy edit your manuscript looking for issues with sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation, but I will also examine your story line. It can be difficult to manage multiple time lines, back stories, and the myriad of other attributes which can be introduced for the benefit of fleshing out characters and the fictional worlds they live in. If something you have written doesn’t quite make sense from a reader’s perspective, I’ll find it.
As this is the most in depth manuscript work, this typically costs $0.05 per word. Any difference in rate depends on the length of the project, the subject and genre of the work, and how quickly you need it to be completed. Manuscripts between 20-60k words typically take around 14 days to complete, but that is not set in stone.
How It Works:
You think you want me to be your editor? Fantastic! Just to make sure we are a good fit, I am willing to provide editing of up to 3 pages of poetry/children’s fiction or 3,000 words of a novel/novella manuscript as a sample to you. This sample is provided for free so that you may better decide if I am the editor for you. If we mesh well, then I would need a 50% deposit prior to beginning any work, and I will need to receive a signed contract which is to protect your intellectual property and both of us from abuse. (You will have an opportunity to review the contract when you contact me.) The deposit will be applied towards the total cost of the project and will not be refunded if you decide to cancel or fail to pay for the rest of the work.
I accept Paypal, Stripe, and Square Cash payments at this time.
Please note that with all of the packages above, you are entitled to one read through/pass of your work and a copy of my proposed changes. I will also send you a copy which has the changes “accepted” so that you will be able to more easily read your work with the changes in place.
In the meantime, feel free to check out these eBook and short sample edits.
